Let’s be honest: we’ve all seen (or written) papers that just dump a quote and move on. But quoting well takes skill.
Here’s your strategy:
Set up the quote with context
Embed the quote smoothly in your own sentence
Analyze what it means and why it matters
Don’t just write “This shows…” Instead, ask: What specific words matter? What effect does this language have? Why did the author say it this way?
Strong quote integration proves you’re not just repeating ideas—you’re engaging with them.
